Although it is a popular movie and acknowledged in the cinema industry, it was only a few weeks ago that I finally managed to watch it. 👀

I must confess I was surprised. Last Tango in Paris was released in 1972, by the italian Bernardo Bertolucci and starred by the iconic Marlon Brando and Maria Schneider.

The story starts with two strangers agreeing to rent the same apartment. An awkward relationship develops between the two characters, both carrying heavy emotional baggage. I won't tell you the rest of the story. All I can say is that there's sex and violence, mainly emotional violence. At the time, the movie shocked many boxed mentalities, although it was a huge success on cinemas.

There are some questions lying in the air. Where does violence start and pleasure ends? What's the worst: psychological or physical violence? What's the real value of taking risks? Is it better to live an illusion or choose truth?

Apesar de ser um filme conhecido e reconhecido pela indústria cinematográfica, foi apenas há algumas semanas que tive a oportunidade de o ver. 👀 
Confesso que me surpreendeu. O Último Tango em Paris chegou aos cinemas em 1972 e foi realizado pelo italiano Bernardo Bertolucci, tendo como protagonistas o icónico Marlon Brando e a jovem Maria Schneider.

A história começa com duas pessoas a decidirem alugar um apartamento, apesar de não se conhecerem. Uma estranha relação desenrola-se entre as duas personagens, ambas portadoras de uma pesada bagagem emocional. Não vos contarei o resto da história. Tudo o que posso dizer é que há sexo e violência emocional. Na altura o filme chocou muitas mentalidades mais fechadas, apesar de ser um grande sucesso de bilheteira.    

Algumas questões surgem e ficam no ar. Onde começa a violência e termina o prazer? O que é pior: violência física ou psicológica? Qual é o verdadeiro valor de correr riscos? É melhor viver uma ilusão ou escolher a verdade? 

Não irei responder a estas questões, mas se as considerarem interessantes, podem comentar.

"The Lighthouse" is a black and white movie, embraced by the colours of two isolated minds living in  a small island, inside a mysterious lighthouse.

The ambience flows among mythical legends of the seas, madness and magic. It's hard to decipher when lucidity stops and madness prevails and the audience keeps waiting for the solution to come. Nevertheless, the storm doesn't stop the way we imagine and the countless interpretations of the story come to our mind after the closing of the plot.

Some argue that both characters are only one person, others argue that there's evol magic in the air and some may even think that two men alone under such circumstances make things go worse than they should. As all genres of art, each individual is entitled to interpret on it's own way and this movie is a good piece to go in that mind and soul challenge

Enjoy the mysteries, the characters, the magnificent interpretations of both actors - Willem Dafoe and Robert Pattinson - and the astonishing photography.

"O Farol" é um filme a preto e branco, abraçado pelas cores de duas mentes isoladas a viverem numa pequena ilha, dentro de um misterioso farol.  

A atmosfera flui entre lendas mitológias dos reinos dos mares, loucura e magia. É difícil decifrar quando termina a lucidez e prevalece a loucura e o espetador vive na ânsia da chegada de uma solução.  No entanto, a tempestade não termina da forma como imaginamos e as infindáveis interpretações da história aterram na nossa mente após o fim do enredo. 

Alguns argumentam que ambas as personagens são apenas uma pessoa, outros argumentam que existe magia maléfica no ar e outros podem até pensar que dois homens sozinhos naquelas circunstâncias tornam as coisas piores do que deveriam. Em todos os géneros de arte, cada indivíduo é chamado a fazer a sua própria interpretação e este filme é um motivo para embarcar nesse desafio da alma e da mente.

Apreciem os mistérios, as personagens, as magníficas interpretações de ambos os atores - Willem Dafoe e Robert Pattinson - e o maravilhoso trabalho de fotografia.
